Ivory Trade

Global Warming
Global warming is the increase of temperature levels in the Earth. Basically what this means is that the world is getting hotter and hotter. This occurs when gases and other air pollutants go up to the atmosphere. Since there is too much of these gases they can't escape into space so they come back down. That's when the Earth gets hotter. This affects elephants because they have a great need of fresh water and the global warming may dry up some of their water supply. Also, it limits their ability to adapt to a changing climate since they are not used to it.
Why write about this?
The reason that I decided to write about this problem is because not many people are aware that elephants are being poached. Each day more elephants die and since people don't know that this is happening no one is doing anything major to stop it. Tusks are the front teeth of elephants which keep growing throughout an elephants life. Elephants rely on their tusks to dig for things such as roots and water, for holding their food in place while eating, and most importantly to defend themselves or their young. Without their teeth they are incapable of living their normal lives and performing daily activities. Not only that, but elephants are also a major contribution to the growth of crops and trees. Since they are big animals, they tend to eat more fruits and bigger ones as well. So as they eat mangoes and other fruits with big seeds, they disperse them and sow the seeds of what will become trees. Their manure also is an organic fertilizer that helps plants grow better. Without these fellow creatures, crops would not grow as efficiently as they do and other animals wouldn't have as much to eat.
How do I feel about this
I am very upset to know that beautiful creatures are being killed to make useless things. I don't think it is right to endanger these animals and their future. I wouldn't want elephants to be a 'once upon a time' few years from now. The extinction of elephants is possible, and it is up to us to prevent that from happening. So help make a difference in our world by avoiding buying any items made of ivory and spread the word to others about what is happening so that they can support our cause as well!
People in Power
I feel furious to know that people with the power to avoid these things from happening prefer to make business rather than protect these innocent animals. It saddens me to see that political leaders don't stop these crimes from being committed. Having the power needed to ban these disgraces, they rather win more money than save lives.
Facts:
As days pass by, the elephant population is decreasing. Unfortunately, these friendly animals are being poached for their tusks. The illegal ivory trade is just one of the many global problems that need to stop. The ivory trade is fueling organized crime and insecurity as traffickers smuggle tusks through the same networks as other high value illegal goods. It is not fair for these lovely creatures to be killed for the greediness of humans today.
Over the last decade, elephant population has dropped by 62%. It is estimated that 100 elephants are killed daily by poachers. More elephants are being killed than those being born. As the number of elephants alive begin to dwindle, they are at risk of going into extinction. We must make sure that this does not happen just for the sake of having luxury items.
